Quick Update To Monday's Blog: The Methylene Blue Piece I Left Out (And Why I Ditched Redmond's Salt)
An addendum to the red light therapy post — Art reveals he's been stacking methylene blue the entire time, why the combo hits harder than either alone, and why he switched from Redmond's Salt to SALTR.
Alright, I've got to come clean. Monday's blog about red light therapy was solid, but I left out a HUGE piece of the puzzle. My fault. Here it is.
I've been adding methylene blue to my morning drink the entire time I've been doing those red light sessions. And if you read the blog and thought, "Art, those results sound a little too good for just standing in front of a red light" — you weren't wrong. The red light is doing real work. But methylene blue is the partner that takes the whole thing to another level.
Let me explain.
What Methylene Blue Actually Does
Methylene blue is a compound that's been around for over 100 years. Doctors used it for malaria long before we had modern drugs. But here's why it matters for those of us dealing with a neurological disorder — whether it's ataxia, MS, Parkinson's, TBI, stroke, dementia, ALS, or any of the other conditions LWA works with:
Methylene blue is a mitochondrial powerhouse. Your mitochondria are the little engines inside every cell that make energy. When you have a neurological condition, those engines are sputtering. They're not pulling their weight. That's a huge part of why you feel exhausted, foggy, and uncoordinated.
Methylene blue acts like a backup electron carrier in your cells' energy production line. When the normal pathway is broken — and in neuro patients, it absolutely is broken — methylene blue jumps in and keeps the energy flowing anyway. It bypasses the broken parts.
Why Methylene Blue + Red Light Therapy Is A Different Animal
Here's where it gets interesting, and this is the part nobody is talking about loud enough.
Red light therapy works by hitting a specific enzyme in your mitochondria called cytochrome c oxidase. Red and near-infrared light wake that enzyme up and tell it to make more energy. That's the whole mechanism. That's why red light helps with brain fog, coordination, fatigue, and recovery.
Methylene blue ALSO targets that exact same pathway. It donates electrons right where cytochrome c oxidase needs them.
So when you combine the two, you're hitting the same target from two different angles at the same time. The red light is photonically activating the enzyme. The methylene blue is feeding it the fuel it needs. The result is greater ATP production (cellular energy) than either one can produce alone. There's actual published research on this combo for cognitive function and neuroprotection — it's not woo-woo, it's biochemistry.
For somebody with damaged mitochondria from any neuro condition, this is a game-changer. More energy at the cellular level means:
- Better coordination signaling
- Less brain fog
- Faster recovery from any kind of exertion
- Better mood and mental clarity
- Potential neuroprotection (your neurons stop dying as fast)
I'm not saying it's a cure. I'm not selling you snake oil. But I'm telling you that after 10 sessions of red light therapy WITH methylene blue in my system every morning, I'm getting results I did not get when I was just doing red light alone earlier this year.

Why I Dumped Redmond's Salt
Look, Redmond's gets marketed hard in the natural health space. I bought into it for a while. But after using it consistently, I noticed I was cramping up more than I should have been. That's not a small deal when you already have coordination problems from a neurological disorder. The last thing I need is muscle cramps making my balance worse.
So I did the research instead of just trusting the marketing. What I found was that Redmond's is mined from an ancient sea bed in Utah, and independent third-party testing has shown it can carry meaningful levels of heavy metals — including lead, aluminum, and others depending on which lot you get. That ancient ocean wasn't picky about what it left behind.
For somebody with a neurological condition, the LAST thing you want is more heavy metals piling up in a body that's already struggling to detox. Heavy metals are neurotoxic. Period. They make every neuro condition worse over time.
So I switched to SALTR. Cleaner, properly mineralized, and I haven't had a cramp issue since.

The Bottom Line
If you read Monday's blog and you're thinking about trying red light therapy for your neuro condition — do it. But seriously consider stacking methylene blue with it. The two together are more than the sum of their parts.
Talk to somebody who knows what they're doing before you start. Methylene blue interacts with certain medications (especially SSRIs and MAO inhibitors — that's a real warning, not a "consult your physician" copout). Dosing matters. Source matters even more — most of what you find online is industrial-grade garbage with contaminants you do NOT want in your brain.
